12 houses finished in £1.09m scheme

- JOHNATHON MENZIES

A dozen new houses have been completed in a Perthshire village.

The £1.09m development on Meigle’s Ardler Road was delayed early last year as a result of Covid-19 restrictions but got back under way in June before recently drawing to a conclusion,

The affordable social housing – a mix of one, two and three-bedroom properties – was developed by Perthshire-based Hadden Group on behalf of Perth and Kinross Council.

Claire Mailer, the council’s depute director of communities, said: “Affordable social housing is at a premium in rural communities like Meigle so it’s fantastic to see the completion of this quality accommodation built by the council.

“It’s a tribute to everyone involved that we have managed to deliver this new development despite the ongoing pandemic.

“The properties will bring added vibrancy to the village and enhance the lives of all the tenants who live in the new homes.”

Ms Mailer continued: “It’s especially pleasing to see how energy efficient these houses are.

“The tenants who live here will really notice the difference to their bills and the use of solar panels will also reduce the environmental impact of the homes.”

The development was funded through a partnership involving the local authority and the Scottish Government, as part of the council’s commitment to increase the supply of social housing in the area.

Ms Mailer added: “Our multi-millionpound building programme, combined with our work supporting new builds through housing associations, has already seen over 500 new homes delivered right across Perth and Kinross since 2012.

“This figure includes over 200 new council homes. All of these new properties have been built to the very highest standards in areas where there is an acute shortage of affordable housing for local people.”

Hadden Group managing director Steven Brady declared: “We are delighted to see completion of another successful project with Perth and Kinross Council in our programme to bring affordable living to the people of Perth and Kinross.

“The challenges that the pandemic presented our delivery team are behind us and we take great satisfaction in seeing these houses ready for new families to enjoy and become part of this community.

“The energy efficiency standards of our homes are matched by the idyllic setting and external space that will offer a great quality of living for local people.”

Councillor Bob Brawn is convener of the council’s housing and communities committee.

The Conservative elected member said: ““I’m very pleased to see the completion of this new development of 12 homes to be offered at affordable rent.

“New tenants will find these are built to high standards with energy efficiency paramount, which will help reduce fuel bills.

“Safety has also been at the forefront with the installation of the latest fire prevention technology.

“This is another development in partnership with the Hadden Group and continues our commitment to provide much-needed affordable housing in towns and villages across the Perth and Kinross area.

“Everyone needs a safe, warm place to live and call home which is essential for physical and mental health and wellbeing.”
