Man banged head and urinated in cop car

- COURT REPORTER

A Perth man repeatedly banged his head off the walls and door of a police vehicle - and then stood up and relieved himself.

Forty-seven-year-old Darren Oakes, now of Potterhill Gardens, had his sentence deferred until May 19 after appearing at Perth Sheriff

Court.

The accused was acquitted by a jury, however, of a separate charge of spitting in a man’s face - and then claiming he was infected with coronavirus.

The accused admitted that on April 16, 2020, at his former home in Perth’s Leslie Court, he repeatedly made offensive comments towards David Doig and falsely claimed to police that he had threatened him with a baseball bat.

Then, while in the rear cage and being taken to Dundee Police HQ, he banged his head off the walls and door and then urinated over the inside of the vehicle.

Oakes was subject to a February 21, 2020, bail order from the Perth court at the time.

The jury returned a not proven verdict on the coronavirus threat charge.

It had been alleged that on May 16, 2020, at a house in Leslie Court, he assaulted Mr Doig by spitting in his face.

Oakes, who admitted seven pages of previous convictions, will discover his fate after a Community Payback Order progress report has been prepared.
