COVID cases drop to lowest in eight months

- DOUGLAS DICKIE

Just one neighbourhood in Perth and Kinross is now recording COVID cases after the infection rate dropped to its lowest level in almost eight months.

According to Public Health Scotland, the seven-day infection rate on May 3 was 9.9 per 100,000 - the lowest since September 17 last year.

It is also a massive drop from the week before when the rate was 28.3 per 100,000.

Every neighbourhood outside of Perth has an infection rate so low it is not registered to protect patient confidentiality.

Viewlands, Craigie and Wellshill has a weekly infection rate of 103.9 per 100,000.

Fifteen positive cases were recorded in the week from April 27 to May 3, a drop from 43 the week before.

Only 0.5 per cent of tests returned a positive result, a drop in one week from 1.3 per cent.

It comes as National Records of Scotland confirmed no COVID deaths had been recorded in the region for the fifth time in six weeks.

After two deaths in the week starting April 19, last week saw the coronavirus not recorded on a single death certificate.

The total number of people who have died in Perth and Kinross from coronavirus is 252.
