St Johnstone boss Callum Davidson has made the shortlist for Scottish Football Writers’ Manager of the Year.

Davidson took hold of the Perth reins back in June 2020 following the departure of Tommy Wright.

Despite a slightly shaky start resultswise, what has followed has been a season of great success which could yet get even better.

Saints currently sit fifth in the Premiership and won the League Cup for the first time in their history back in February.

Since the turn of the year, they have lost just three games - against Celtic, Rangers and Aberdeen.

How Davidson sets his team up and the football they play has caught the eye of delighted Perth fans and wider Scottish football.

He is part of a four-way battle to land the Scottish Football Writers’ Manager of the Year title.

Rangers boss Steven Gerrard is in the running. His side ran away with the Premiership and tied up the top-flight title with more than two months of the season to go, while also impressing in the Europa League.

David Martindale of Livingston was also shortlisted. He narrowly missed out on the League Cup in February - losing to Saints - but helped piece together a 15game unbeaten run earlier in the season.

The final name on the shortlist is national team boss Steve Clarke, who ended 23 years of pain to book Scotland’s place at Euro 2020.

Sponsored by William Hill, the Manager of the Year winner will be announced before the end of the season.
