Outdoor classroom is tribute to Allmeria
An outdoor classroom at a Perth school has been named after a pupil who died suddenly in December.
Primary five St John’s RC Academy pupil Allmeria Oliver passed away on December 11 at the age of just nine after an unexpected medical emergency.
The outdoor classroom was requested by pupils through a pupil participatory funding initiative, with this idea garnering the most votes across the primary school.
Funding has also come from the Perth Common Good Fund, the Basil Death Fund, Axiom and the Pupil Equity Fund.
On May 12, Canon Steven Mulholland, of St John’s RC Church, led a service of dedication, naming the classroom‘The Allmeria’.
The classroom was officially opened by Allmeria’s mum Julie Steedman and dad Sherriff Oliver, along with P5 representatives Julia Szafran and Oliwier Podniesinski.
Julie said:“Allmeria saw this classroom being built and was looking forward to the day it opened. She would be rolling about in joy at the thought of it being named in her honour.
“She was a very special girl, and the children in her class are very special children.
I just wish I could have given them all a hug.”
Seán Hagney, the head teacher of St John’s RC Academy, said he was sure Allmeria would be“glad that her name will be heard every day in this playground”.
He added:“Allmeria was a young girl full of imagination, full of fun, and we miss her tremendously.
“The‘Allmeria’is a place of learning, a place of fun and a place for the imagination. I hope Allmeria Oliver will be proud that we have named the outdoor classroom in her memory.”
