Pool ‘on schedule’ to reopen in autumn

-

currently on schedule for a planned reopening in September.”

Mr Cromwell said Live Active was doing everything it possibly could to meet that target date for reopening.

He added: “I do also qualify this by reflecting on the fact we are operating within very challenging and uncertain times still at the moment.

“However, at this time we remain on schedule for September completion and reopening.”

Perth City North SNP councillor Ian Massie asked if repair costs were being met by insurance.

Mr Cromwell said it was a “substantial reinstatement work”.

He explained: “In excess of - I would say - 140,000 gallons of water were removed from our sub-plant room.”

The chief executive told the committee the flooding caused “significant” damage to Perth Leisure Pool’s electrical, mechanical and filtration systems.

But he confirmed the cost of the repairs - in excess of £1 million - would be met by Live Active’s insurer.

Councillors were also told Live Active has taken the opportunity to carry out other “modest” maintenance work it had been looking at.

Mr Cromwell said it “made sense to do that now” to avoid further closure of the Perth facility over the next year or two.

In the meantime Live Active will be looking to programme additional children’s swimming lessons “where possible” over the summer.

Mr Cromwell said: “Learning to swim is an essential life skill and we need to prioritise pool time to catch up on disruption over this past year caused by COVID and the closure of Perth Leisure Pool.”
