Byre hosts folk gig recording
One-off performance to go online
The Byre at Inchyra was the location for a special one-off recording on Sunday, May 9.
The performance was commissioned by Perth Festival of the Arts and curated by award-winning Perthshire musicians Ross Ainslie and Ali Hutton.
Capturing the live set for broadcast on Sunday, May 23 and Monday, May 23 at 7.30pm as part of this year’s online festival, the duo performed music from their highly acclaimed ‘Symbiosis’ album series as well as premiering special collaborations with other Scottish musicians Mairi
Sutherland, Jim Malcolm and Mhairi Mackinnon.
This unique presentation of music both old and new brought together their band for the first time in over a year; consisting of some of Scotland’s top folk musicians, Jenn Butterworth on guitar and vocals, Paul Jennings on drums and percussion, and James Lindsay on bass.
Helen MacKinnon, Perth Festival of the Arts administrator, said: “We are thrilled to be bringing festival audiences this incredible gig with Ross, Ali and friends.
“The concert focuses on artists hailing from Perthshire and celebrates world-class musicians from our area.
“The location - a beautifully restored rustic barn – was the perfect setting for ‘as live’ gig recording. It’s going to be a really special concert and we hope audiences across Scotland and beyond will tune in.”
Ali Hutton said: “It was brilliant to play with our own band as well as so many guest musicians from Perthshire. We loved every minute of it and hope to be back playing live soon”
Ross Ainslie added: “The folk community have for over a year for the most part been unable play together, collaborate and create something new in a live setting, so it was great that we got a chance to do this for the online edition of the Perth Festival.”
