Be a part of theatre’s Christmas pantomime

- DOUGLAS DICKIE

Members of the community could be stars of Perth Theatre’s panto - oh yes they could.

Panto dame Barrie Hunter, who is writing and directing the show, is calling on anyone over 18 who loves to sing, dance and perform to apply to audition for Cinderella.

The community cast tryout will take place on Saturday, October 9, with Cinderella set to hit the theatre stage at the end of November.

Barrie, who is also playing one of the Ugly Sisters alongside Ewan Somers, said: “I am so excited to be back at Perth Theatre with Cinderella this year, in the actual theatre and in front of an actual, in-person live audience - it’s been too long.

“I am delighted that Ewan Somers will be joining me again, wearing daft frocks and ridiculous wigs, and the baddest baddie Helen Logan will be spreading her usual helping of evil.

“The wonderful Neshla Caplan will be spiritually guiding us all along, and Betty Valencia (Cinderella) and Lewis Winter Petrie (Buttons) have a lot on their hands, but I’m sure they’ll be alright in the end - especially with the help of their fellow shop workers and pals Kimberley Hoyle and James Dawoud.

“But we might need a bit of help from you, the community out there. If you would like to be part of this year’s panto, we’re looking for a community company to join us onstage.

“You’d be up there with the rest of us singing, dancing, and doing all the other stuff that we get up to.”

The auditions will take place in Perth Theatre between 10am and 4pm on Saturday, October 9. Potential community cast members must pre-book a time slot by emailing engagement@horsecross. co.uk

There is no need to prepare anything. The audition will consist of singing in a group and perhaps a line or two individually.

There will also be a simple dance routine to learn.

Bosses at the theatre say they would try and work around successful applicants schedules but budding performers would need to be available from November to January for rehearsals and shows. It is likely people would be performing every second night or afternoon. There may be some day-time rehearsals as well as in the evening.

Tickets for Cinderella are on sale now at www.horsecross.co.uk, from the Perth Theatre box office which is open from Monday to Friday from 10am to 4pm, or by phone on 01738 621031.
