Looking back at Liam’s greatest hits

Stunning goal from distance at East End Park, November 2008 Down the pub and the topic of Liam Craig’s finest St Johnstone goals arises. Look no further than this strike at East End Park way back in November 2008, his first full season in Perth colours.

It was a finish of power and accuracy made sweeter by arriving in front of the travelling support. Add into the bargain that it was a second half winner and it becomes very special.

Earlier in the game, Martin Hardie had given Saints the lead with a clever free-kick that climbed up and over the Dunfermline wall. But the advantage was short-lived when Scott Wilson headed in an equaliser on 24 minutes.

On a rather cold afternoon, Craig had just the tonic to warm up those perched in the away end. After receiving a quick throw-in, he twisted away to find space and unleashed a left-footed peach of a drive from distance. It swerved away from goalkeeper Paul Gallacher and into the corner of the net.

The roar was quite something. Craig has always enjoyed a celebration and he bounded towards excitable fans, arms stretched out. Class.

Memorable celebration at Dens Park, September 2012

The ultimate celebration and one that will definitely always be remembered.

He doesn’t tend to do low-key celebrations. But this one, in particular, made the afternoon of those sitting in the away end.

Craig decided to bask in the glory right in front of the Dundee support - arms stretched out and running at pace. He travelled quite a considerable distance along the length of their stand before eventually grinding to a halt with a smile. Memorable.

Striker Steven MacLean then netted a third.

Last minute goals. You can’t not love them.

And this one from Liam Craig was particularly important.

Trailing by one following 17-year-old Ryan Gauld’s first half finish, it didn’t appear to be Saints’day at McDiarmid Park. But it was.

You could probably count on one hand how many headers Craig has scored for the club through the years. But he was certainly positioned in the right place in the third minute of injury time to level.

Mehdi Abeid, who was on loan from Newcastle, whipped in the corner and there was a stooping Craig to nod high into the net.

He sprinted to escape the arms of delighted team-mates before knee-sliding in front of
