Booth lauds team-mate Clark

- MATTHEW GALLAGHER

It was hailed as the best goalkeeping performance he had ever seen.

And St Johnstone defender Callum Booth reckons Zander Clark couldn’t have done any more in his bid to earn a Scotland recall.

The Perth shot-stopper was in scintillating form on Saturday as Saints held on to edge out Tayside rivals Dundee United.

He produced save after save to frustrate the hosts and earn plaudits from across

Scottish football.

National boss Steve Clarke is set to name his latest squad for upcoming World Cup qualifiers against Moldova and Denmark this afternoon.

“Zander really couldn’t have done any more,” Booth said of his team- mate’s heroics.

“I know Steve Clarke has a hard enough job but I’m sure he will have watched our game at some point. He will definitely have been impressed by Zander.

“All the boys in our dressing room would love it if he got back in the Scotland squad because he’s a brilliant guy.”

Booth watched on in amazement as Clark dived to the left and right to secure a special clean sheet at Tannadice.

“It is definitely the best performance I have ever seen live from a goalkeeper,” Booth continued. “Just unbelievable.

“He has been so good ever since I’ve been at the club and is such a big, commanding figure behind us.

“In the last 20 minutes it was literally save after save. We need to do better as a defence and a team.

“But let’s give Zander all the credit because some of his saves were brilliant.

“It was definitely a welldeserved clean sheet.

“I’ve been here over two years now and can’t remember him having a bad game. He is so consistent and in the big games too.

“On days like Saturday
