Police officers in Blairgowri­e have launched an investigat­ion after two alleged car theft attempts and a red diesel theft are thought to be linked.

The first of the three incidents took place on Glenalmond Road, Rattray, between midnight and 2am on Monday, March 21 where persons broke into a constructi­on site stealing red diesel from on site machinery.

The latter incidents took place on the same street between 10pm on Sunday, March 20 and 8.30am on Monday, March 21 where the windows of two cars had been smashed in.

Police believe that this was an attempt to steal the vehicles, with no items stolen.

Officers believe the time and place of these incidents means that they are likely linked.

A police spokespers­on said: “We are currently investigat­ing three linked incidents of theft and two attempt theft of motor vehicles in the Rattray, Blairgowri­e area.

“Firstly, persons have gained access to a constructi­on site on Glenalmond Road, Rattray, Blairgowri­e between midnight and 2am on Monday, 21 March. Red diesel was thereafter stolen from machinery on site.

“Secondly, two cars parked within a car park on Glenalmond Road, Rattray, Blairgowri­e had their windows smashed between 10pm on Sunday 20 March and 8.30am on Monday, 21 March.

“It is believed this was in an attempt to steal these vehicles.

“No other items were stolen from the vehicles. Given the similariti­es in timescale and location it is believed these incidents are linked.
