The Swifts savour the return of Reg

Boss delighted to see hitman Mclaren back at club

- MATTHEW GALLAGHER

Familiar face Reg Mclaren was back in Jeanfield colours on Saturday and helped the club return to winning ways.

The striker, who returned on Thursday after a spell with East Kilbride, was straight in from the start for the Premier Division tussle at Dundonald Bluebell.

And while he was not on the scoresheet in the 2-0 win – Aaron Whitehead and Kieran Sweeney took that honour – his presence was very much welcomed by manager Ross Gunnion.

The Swifts boss said: “Reg made his return and we couldn’t be happier seeing him back.

“He signed on Thursday and came down to do some work ahead of the game which shows you the commitment and determination to do well.

“I thought Reg and Connor linked well and he’ll be a huge asset in the run-in if he continues to lead the line like he did on Saturday.”

Turning his attention to the game Gunnion added: “We should have scored a few in the first half but it was pleasing to see both Aaron and Kieran show their strength in the opposition box as well as defending our own.”

Youngster Evan Wolecki had been rewarded with a start after impressing against Linlithgow Rose midweek.

“He impressed again,” Gunnion said. “Adam Leese, Scott Logan and Elliot Scott all came off the bench to contribute to the win and a clean sheet as well.

“It was great to bounce back with a victory and all credit goes to the players for their effort and attitude.

“We started the game missing 10 players, but those who played were outstanding and controlled the game against a very strong opponent from the outset.”

Elsewhere, Kyle Green was at the double as Luncarty earned themselves an impressive King Cup third round 2-1 win against league rivals Dunbar United.

The Bleachers had fallen behind in the first half at Brownlands but Green netted a peach to level proceedings after the break before scoring the winner.

Manager Robbie Holden praised the midfielder’s key contribution and said: “The first half was a slow start from us. We didn’t really create much and went behind to a deflected goal just before half-time.

“The second half was much better and we were pleased with the effort to draw level and then push on to get a late winner against a top side.

“Kyle’s first goal was a cracker. We had a great view of it and as soon as he hit it, we knew it was in.

“To push on and get the winner is important for him and his confidence.

“He is a player with tremendous ability and needs to show he can put runs of goals and assists together.

“He is a great trainer and when he is in the mood he’s a top player.”

The Bleachers now travel to Lochore Welfare in the First Division tomorrow night.

Alluding to the performance of Green, Holden added: “It’s given us things to consider for Wednesday.”

Kinnoull lost out 3-1 against Glenrothes at Tulloch Park in Saturday’s crunch promotion push First Division fixture. Pat Brown was the home scorer.
