Meet Scottish tennis’development coach of the year
A dedicated tennis coach who inspires in the Kinross-shire area has been recognised with a top national award.
Perth-born Alessia Palmieri, a familiar face at Fossoway Tennis Club, was among the winners at the recent Tennis Scotland Awards.
The awards celebrate the formidable achievements and contributions of individuals, clubs, programmes and competitions throughout 2022.
Palmieri was “over the moon” to net Development Coach of the Year.
Taking home the honour was made possible thanks to her “commitment and dedication” to developing tennis and also specifically enhancing the after-school and weekend programme for children of all ages and abilities at Fossoway Tennis Club.
Palmieri made sure to turn the spotlight on others and said: “A huge thank you to everyone who supported me.”
A spokesperson for Fossoway Tennis Club posted: “All at Fossoway Tennis club are extremely proud and send our biggest congratulations to Alessia.”
Perthshire’s Strathallan
School was also in the running for a top award – the School of the Year – but that prize, on this occasion, went to Dollar Academy.
The Scottish Tennis Awards success now moves Palmieri on to the LTA British Awards later in 2023.
Blane Dodds, Tennis Scotland chief executive, made sure to congratulate all winners on the night.
“I would like to extend my congratulations to every winner at this year’s Tennis Scotland Awards,” he said.
“I’d also thank all who do so much for Scottish tennis and who celebrated the awards with us in person at the Stirling Court Hotel.
“As the Scottish governing body, we are grateful for the individuals and organisations that have played their part in growing and developing tennis across Scotland over the last year.
“With record numbers of members within our club network and record entries at many competitions, there is real momentum in Scottish tennis.
“We look forward to further developments in 2023. Best wishes to all our winners who go ahead to the LTA British Awards this year.”
