Memorial fund for Cammy raises £15k

- STAFF REPORTER

An online fundraiser launched in the memory of a much-loved man who died in Perth last weekend has quickly gathered more than £15,000.

The 20-year-old was officially named by police earlier this week as Cameron Rae. Tributes have flooded in for Cameron, known affectionately as “Chip”. His mother, Kerry Burgess, yesterday told the PA that the local support has been “absolutely amazing” for her “loved laddie”. Tributes have appeared across the city - including at St Paul’s Square in the city centre and at the Tay Street viewing platform, where floral tributes were laid.

A fundraiser to cover funeral expenses was set up with a target of £5000. In just seven hours, more than £11,000 had been raised, with any extra cash going to Cameron’s family.

Now, the total sits at more than £15,000.

The Gofundme page was organised to give Cameron the “best send-off” and it adds: “Any donations made will be highly appreciated. Left over money will be given to Cameron’s family.”

Speaking of the fundraiser, Kerry said she is “absolutely stunned” at how generous people have been.

Posting online, Kerry had described Cameron as “a big lump of fun”.

She wrote: “Fly high my boy. We were so proud of you son. I will always love you. My wee cheeky Cammy, you were just a big lump of fun always wanting a carry on.”

Police had been called to an incident in the city’s South Methven Street on Saturday night.

A man has appeared in court charged with the murder of Cameron Rae.

Caleb Ferguson (18) made no plea or declaration during the short private hearing at Perth Sheriff Court on Tuesday. Ferguson was also charged with assault and remanded in custody.
