Number one act secured for fest

The Broken Creels join March Into Pitlochry line-up

Organisers of the March Into Pitlochry music event have secured a number one act as the final piece of the jigsaw for May’s ‘biggest little festival in Scotland’.

With former Apollo 440 and The Grim Northern Social frontman Ewan Macfarlane already billed, music fans will be treated to a set by Aberdeenshire alt-rock band, The Broken Creels.

The group’s debut single ‘Friend or Foe’ shot straight to number 1 in the itunes UK rock chart upon its release last week.

Winning comparisons with bands such as The Stereophonics, the group headlined a Belladrum festival stage last year and premiered their single at HMV Aberdeen last weekend.

The new release was featured at half-time during the Aberdeen versus Kilmarnock match last week as well as on Jim Gellatly’s radio show.

The Broken Creels will fill the missing Saturday evening slot at Mckays Hotel Bar and Restaurant’s new function suite, which will host the ever growing 2-day event on May 19 and 20.

It will make for a “rousing finale”, with The Rhythm Service, Dropkick, The Tumbling Souls and the second set by Ewan Macfarlane and his band, joining The Broken Creels on the stage on the last night.

“We are really pleased to have put together such an eclectic line-up and everyone is looking forward to it. Anticipation is building. We are on countdown,” said local organiser, Marion Mcdonald.

Headliner, Macfarlane, will play a Friday acoustic set, promoting new album ‘Dove’ before returning with his band on the Saturday evening.

Described as ‘ the best voice in rock this side of the Atlantic’ by The Sunday Times, he has played alongside The Prodigy, the Chemical Brothers, Simple Minds and Elvis Costello during a rich career.

Owners of the venue, Mckays, are now in their fifth year of supporting the Highland Perthshire event and are also planning to inaugurate a second Pitlochry music festival this November; such has been the success of March Into Pitlochry.

Mckays owner, Richard Drummond, said: “We are very supportive of the festival and want it to continue to do well.

“We have invested in making our function suite a venue for great music events so it fits very well with our ethos of making Mckays a place where people can eat, stay and enjoy great entertainment.”

Friday’s bill features an acoustic set by Macfarlane followed by

Glasgow retro five-piece, The Strange Blue Dreams, who have played Glastonbury as well as the Edinburgh Festival.

On Saturday, from 1pm, there are acoustic sessions from Tom Mason, The Sibellas and Wully Smith, followed by open mic opportunities, before the grand finale from 7pm onwards.
