Taste of defeat for Scone in derby

-

SCONE THISTLE.................................. 1 COUPAR ANGUS................................ 2

Scone Thistle were unable to build on their positive run of recent form on Wednesday night.

And instead the Jaggie Nettles went down 2-1 in the Midlands League Perthshire derby against Coupar Angus.

Scone pitched up at Farquharson Park in high spirits following a comeback win over Lochee Harp last weekend.

They attempted to keep the momentum going by producing a strong start at Farquharson Park but, instead, it was the visitors who nudged in front.

A lapse in concentration at the back allowed Robbie Norrie to take advantage and guide into the back of the net from close range.

There was not much in the game at all and Scone would draw level as the half-time whistle approached.

It was Paul Leask who suddenly broke clear before producing a neat, lobbed finish over the goalkeeper’s head.

All looked well for the home team heading into the second half and especially considering Coupar had been reduced to 10 men for an off-the-ball straight red card incident.

Both teams battled for the upper hand after the break but it was Coupar who would grasp the decisive moment to bag the winner.

Again, Norrie was the man wheeling off in celebration.

Scone had a couple of golden opportunities as the game reached its latter stages but some poor decision making and handy goalkeeping kept them out.

Tomorrow, Scone are again on home soil and welcome high-flyers Dundee North End.

Coupar Angus, meanwhile, boosted by this latest success, host Forfar West End at Foxhall Park.

Along the road at Davie Park, Blairgowrie welcome Dundee East Craigie for league action.

Completing the full schedule of Perthshire home fixtures is Letham.

The Seven Acres men are preparing to take on Dundee St James tomorrow afternoon.

Kick-off in all the local Junior fixtures is scheduled for 2.30pm.
