Luncarty netted a huge midweek result to nudge into the East of Scotland League First Division promotion places.

The Bleachers, who now sit third, defeated second-placed Glenrothes 1-0 away from home on Tuesday evening.

Ben Scarborough, a strong performer all season, scored the only goal of the game with 52 minutes on the clock.

Delighted manager Robbie Holden said: “It’s a big result for us and a muchneeded three points.

“It also gives us a lift being able to see the win over the line given the way we let two leads slip in the last couple of games.

“I thought we were the better team from start to finish. We had a goal chalked off for offside that looked very close but our work ethic was excellent all night.

“That is us in the top three now with six games left. We just need to keep winning by any means necessary and stay there.”

Luncarty turn attention to the Cup Winners Shield on Saturday and travel to Abbey Vale.

“Abbey Vale have had a strong season,” Holden said. “They score a lot of goals and have ties with Queen of the South so they have a lot of energy and players from a good level.

“We have seen success from the South League against strong opposition so we know we will need to be at our best to get a result.

“We have done our homework though so now it’s a case of putting it into practice.”

Tonight (Friday), Kinnoull welcome Leith Athletic to Tulloch Park in the King Cup. Kick-off is scheduled for 6.15pm.
