TV test for Fair City Rollers

-

Perth’s roller derby team have their minds fully focused on their forthcoming matches this weekend having tested their metal in a televised quiz show.

Earlier this month, Wendy Miller, Amy Mowat, Jennifer Clyde Mcmaster and Gail Stirling Robertson of Fair City Rollers appeared on the Channel 5 general knowledge game show Eggheads, hosted by Jeremy Vine.

Wendy said:“we had a brilliant time on the show.

“Although we were really excited, the nerves did kick in, but they looked after us and we really enjoyed the whole experience.

“I’d say it’s a similar nervous excitement we feel just before a game of roller derby – and we’re all gearing up for this Sunday’s game.”

The double header match this Sunday, April 30 at Bell’s Sports Centre in Perth will see hosts FCR face up to Lothian Roller Derby in the first game, with the second game featuring two teams of mixed newer players from throughout Scotland.

After a run of wins, all games and training were put on hold due to coronavirus restrictions, but FCR returned to play in November last year with a win against Lothimean, a mix of players from Lothian Roller Derby and Glasgow’s Mean City Roller Derby.

Wendy added:“roller derby was one of the most restricted activities during lockdown, however we skated outdoors and hosted virtual quiz nights, definitely helping our passion for game shows!

“Although we didn’t make it through on Eggheads, we’ve recorded another national TV show, but aren’t allowed to reveal any details just yet – so watch this space.”

Sunday’s matches at Bell’s offer a cake table and raffle, as well as the games. Doors open at 11am.

Tickets are £5 (under 12s free) and are available on the door. Cash sales only.
