Club blueprint wins golf pro’s support
Player describes Craigie Hill course plan as‘brilliant’
Challenge Tour golf pro Daniel Young is backing Craigie Hill’s plans to create a nine-hole course and tee-up wider recreational facilities for the Fair City.
Daniel has enjoyed a close look at the blueprint designed to secure the future of the club where he learned the game.
The transition committee’s vision for a nine-hole challenge with an 18-tee configuration, along with a community hub and 200 homes development on the lower slopes, is designed to secure the future of a club dating back to 1911.
Feedback from Scottish Golf and The R&A has been “very encouraging” as the club seeks the green light from Perth and Kinross Council.
“I first started golfing at Craigie Hill when I was 11 or 12 so it has a special place in my heart,” said Daniel, who is attached to Kingsbarns Golf Links and is hoping to secure a late entry to a tournament looming in Abu Dhabi.
“There was a great group of juniors learning the game and I’d be golfing after classes at Perth Academy and during the holidays,” he added.
“There’s no doubt it helped my development and I have been coming here ever since.
“Having looked over the club’s proposals I have to say they look brilliant.
“Sustaining the future of
Craigie Hill has to be the priority.
“It now has not-for-profit status and going for a nine-hole challenge should broaden the appeal of membership.
“Nowadays, nine-hole courses are proving very popular with golfers of all ages and ability, especially when time is limited.
“The idea of using the clubhouse for community use and a base for other sports such as mountain biking is tremendous.
“Perth has been growing in recent years and leisure options are essential. This seems to tick all the boxes.”
