It’s chop, chop for Jackson’s new look

Kind youngster boosts the Little Princesstrust

- MELANIE BONN

A kind-hearted primary school pupil with spectacular hair is willing to cut it short in order to help charity.

Jackson Young has light curly locks that make him stand apart but the St Ninian’s PS student is gearing up for a radical image change on Sunday.

So far £1215 has been pledged for him to see through his wish and for the choppedoff plait to be given to The Little Princess Trust (LPT).

The charity provides real hair wigs, free of charge, to children and young people who have lost their own hair through cancer treatment or to other conditions such as Alopecia.

The LPT is also one of the largest funders of childhood cancer research in the UK and relies solely on the generosity of supporters.

Newly moved up into P5, Jackson’s got the full support of his class and his teacher at the school on Perth’s Dunkeld Road.

His hobbies are Cubs - he goes to 22nd Perthshire Scout Group - computer games, Minecraft, anything Godzillarelated and he is obsessed with dinosaurs.

“He has a dinosaur called Extra Blue who will be there when he gets the chop,” revealed his proud mum Laura Young.

It seems Jackson’s got lots of interests and Laura added: “He wants to have his own restaurant when he’s older.

“He loves coming to work with me at Cafe 80 in George Street when he’s off school and he is great at serving customers.

“Jackson has been growing his hair for ages - three whole years - for the sole purpose of donating it to help out some other folks in need.

“He’s been growing it for so long now that it will definitely be different. I think he’s fully done with people thinking he’s a wee girl, so no regrets. He’s super excited about everything.

“We are so proud of him, he’s such an absolutely cool dude.

“His chop is on Sunday, May 14 at 4pm at Stuart’s Barbers in South Methven Street. Cutter Jenni Cardo Bews is coming in on her day off just to do it.

“His dad Alex, myself and some of his wee pals plus his Nonna (Donna) will be there.”

Donna Horn, unofficial grandmother to Jackson, said: “I have the pleasure of looking after an eight-year-old boy called Jackson Young.

“He has been growing his hair to donate to Little Princess Trust. He just wants to do something nice. His parents and I are organising a charity chop on May 14.

“It’s a great cause and I believe that, in this day and age, this is a story that will warm a few cold hearts.”
