PERTH ST LEONARD’S PROBUS CLUB

President Ian Normand welcomed everyone and introduced the speaker, Mr Rob Hands, whose talk was about ‘Walking in the Alps’.

Using slides, a description was given of many walking tours under the heading of ‘Alpine Superhighways’. Mountain walking in Norway was snow-covered and very scenic and similar to the Cairngorms of Scotland. Rob’s walking tours in various mountain regions were described, showing the very different landscapes throughout Europe.

Walking across glaciers was explained and knowledge of this activity was essential bearing in mind the dangers.

The scenery illustrated was spectacular throughout the presentation and it is understandable that climbers are attracted to this very demanding activity. The photographic display was accompanied by many interesting stories including the effects of climate change.

The vote of thanks was given by Eric Nicklin.
