Stan will be the man at Saints
Familiar face taking on CEO role
St Johnstone yesterday announced that familiar face Stan Harris is returning in a newly-created role of CEO.
Harris, from Perth, is well-known at Mcdiarmid Park and previously held the position of director for 15 years before standing down in August 2021 for health reasons.
But he will start his new position on Monday and says it will be a “wonderful honour”.
Back in December, chairman Steve Brown revealed he would be standing down at the end of this current season while his father Geoff, the owner, planned to sell his shareholding.
The Perth club is up for sale but a new owner has not, as of yet, been found.
Steve Brown will stand down as chairman next week and Charlie Fraser will also be leaving his role of vice-chairman. Geoff Brown will now take the title of honorary president.
In a further boardroom reshuffle, well-known Perth businessman Alan Storrar is stepping up to become a director alongside Roddy Grant.
Speaking yesterday, Harris said: “This is a wonderful honour to be given the role of CEO at St Johnstone.
“With Steve Brown standing down as chairman, and the club up for sale, it’s important to have someone at the helm who knows the club inside out.
“We feel my appointment will help the overall stability and continuity.
“I look forward to working with Roddy and Alan and all the other wonderful staff we have here.
“I will lead the board and report to the Brown family.”
Chairman Brown said Harris was a “brilliant” member of the board and added: “It’s great to have him back, leading the football club.
“Alan is also a solid St Johnstone man with a fine business acumen and will be a huge asset as he steps up from his role as associate director to director.
“Roddy remains on board as a director and I’m delighted about that. My dad will now become honorary president instead of chairman. We feel that role is more befitting of his overall contribution to St Johnstone over a period of 37 years.”
St Johnstone secured their 15th consecutive season in the topflight last Saturday after fending off relegation fears with a win at Rugby Park against Kilmarnock.
The final game of the season, following on from Wednesday’s 3-3 draw against Ross County in Dingwall, takes place at Mcdiarmid Park on Sunday afternoon when Saints welcome Livingston.
