Vale of Earn win county crown

-

Vale of Earn have won the Perthshire Amateur Football Association Division One title.

The Crieff side were declared winners of the region’s top tier for the first time in the club’s history on Saturday following a 4-1 away win at second-placed Kettins.

They followed this up with a 4-0 away win against Alyth on Tuesday to continue their ongoing 13-match unbeaten run.

Vale’s coronation will officially take place on Saturday as they fittingly welcome Kettins to Market Park for what is their final game of the season.

Vale’s Garry Brock said:“well done to every single player who has put in so much hard work this season.

“The boys have shown some real character to continue to put in solid displays week in, week out.”

Vale sealed the league title with an excellent display at Lindsay Park.

They opened the scoring when Kros Brown drove past a couple of players before he was chopped down.

Good refereeing allowed the advantage to be played and up stepped Euan Carter to produce a moment of brilliance to curl an unstoppable strike into the far top corner from 25 yards.

It was a goal good enough to win any football match and Vale made it 2-0 when Carter turned provider to tee-up Paddy Ward to coolly lob the Kettins keeper.

Vale grabbed a third when Carter directed a looping header into the goal from a long throw by Ross Nixon.

And the crucial points were wrapped up when the ever hard-working Ward smashed home a rocket from the edge of the box to release all tension on the Vale sideline.

Kettins grabbed a late consolation but it wasn’t enough to dampen the jubilant scenes which erupted in the away dressing room.
