Safety istop priority, says Firstminister
First Minister Humza Yousaf moved to reassure the community of Aberfeldy as he was asked about the murder probe in parliament.
The SNP leader said he had spoken with top cops at Police Scotland following concerns from the public about the timeline of the investigation.
He said:“let me try to give as much reassurance as I can to the community of Aberfeldy about their safety.
“I know that Police Scotland are taking this case, extremely seriously.
“There are questions I know that have been asked - given reports in the last 24-48 hours - in terms of the time taken between Mr Low’s death and the post-mortem and the opening of the murder investigation.
“I’ve been absolutely assured, and I’ve sought these assurances, that Police Scotland are working around the clock into this murder investigation and will be seeking to reassure the community as they can.”
He said that the suggestion of an “increased police presence”was a sensible one and that he was ensured this was fed back to the force and called for anyone with information to contact police.
Politicians across Perth and Kinross have also urged the community to engage with police.
Perthshire North MSP, John Swinney said:“this incident will shock the community in Aberfeldy and will understandably cause public concern.
“I have spoken with Police Scotland and sought reassurance that an appropriate police presence will be in place to ensure community safety. In these terrible circumstances I urge anyone with relevant information to contact Police Scotland.”
Mid Scotland and Fife Conservative MSP Murdo Fraser commented:“my condolences go to Mr Low’s family and friends at this very difficult time for them.
“Incidents like this are almost unheard of in Highland Perthshire and I’m sure the community of Aberfeldy will be shocked to hear of this murder. I would encourage anyone with information to contact Police Scotland.”
SNP Councillor for the Highland ward, Mike Williamson, said the incident is“deeply distressing”for the community, adding:“the police will be working hard to conduct their investigation and support the community and hopefully people will support offices with any information they have.”
Pete Wishart, MP for Perth and North Perthshire, also added:“this is an utterly horrifying incident which will have shocked the close-knit community of Aberfeldy to its core.
“It is vital that all available resources are now employed to get to the bottom of what has happened and who is responsible as quickly as possible.”
