‘Home run will give us boost’
St Johnstone Women manager Kev Candy hopes home comforts will give his team a great chance to put a run of positive results together this month.
The Perth side play three of their next four SWPL2 fixtures at the Riverside, starting with the visit of Boroughmuir Thistle on Sunday for a 1pm kick-off.
Saints host Stirling University the next weekend, followed by a midweek away clash at Glasgow Women before another Riverside tussle with Kilmarnock on Sunday, March 17.
But manager Candy, formerly part of the setup with Edinburgh-based Boroughmuir, is under no illusions their first fixture will be a hard-fought one.
“Boroughmuir are an exceptionally hard-working side, and that comes as no surprise as having worked under their manager before myself, I know the demands and expectations he places on players,” he revealed.
“That said we are starting a good run of home fixtures so it would be nice to start it with a positive outcome.
“We fully expect the players to come flying out of the proverbial traps this week.”
Going down 5-0 away to league leaders Queen’s Park in their previous league outing has not dampened the manager’s spirit.
St Johnstone lie fifth in the table, one place and seven points behind Boroughmuir with a game in hand, and Candy hopes to close the gap.
“Regardless of a win, loss or draw, we take our collective lessons learnt from each event, apply the learning to our framework for our next game, and consign the past to the past,” he added.
“Our focus is and always will be on the next training session building up the next match.
“Is it a great chance to catch them. “But its also a great opportunity for Boroughmuir to put some clean air between us and them - so it is certainly all to play for.”
