ST JOHNSTONE WOMEN .................... 0 BOROUGHMUIR THISTLE .................. 0
St Johnstone Women recorded their first draw of the season against Boroughmuir Thistle on Sunday.
Perth’s Olivia Hurrell had the first effort of the game on 13 minutes but she fired her 25-yard strike just wide of Beth Rennie’s right-hand post.
The visitors then came close to scoring, shooting wide after pouncing on Bobby Cochran’s unconvincing clearance.
More opportunities came as the half came to a close. Jodie Malcolm used her strength to turn a defender, but she could not hit the target.
In the final minute of the half, a swift counter attack by the Edinburgh side was thwarted by an onrushing
Cochran.
Into the second half and the fare on offer was much the same as the first half.
After an hour the first save of the game came from Rennie, to deny Niamh Irvine’s powerful drive. Laura Steedman then headed just wide from the ensuing corner.
Saints’ellie-may Cowie was inches away from connecting with excellent Irvine cross. Cochran had a rather quiet afternoon for her second clean sheet of the season.
The defence in front of her, however, did not and had to deal with a great deal of Boroughmuir pressure as the second half wore on.
The last 10 minutes saw the match became more end to end but both sides managed to keep the other at bay.
Manager Kevin Candy called it“one of our best defensive performances of the season”.
Saints remain fifth in the SWPL2 table and welcome Stirling University to the Riverside on Sunday.
