Community fridge gets £13k grant
Perth and Kinross Council has allocated a further £13,000 to help support a Perth charity’s community fridge.
The additional funding pledge to Letham4all was made at last week’s meeting of Perth and Kinross Council as it set the 2024/25 budget.
And all three Perth City North councillors are delighted to see the funding being used in this way as is Letham4all.
Letham4all manager Gordon Ferguson said: “We are really pleased to have the support of our local elected members, our community fridge is a vital service in our communities.”
Perth City North SNP councillor Ian Massie said: “This extra funding will allow the fridge to stock staple shelf products such as toilet rolls and sanitary products which allows the provision to be as dignified as possible.”
Fellow SNP local councillor John Rebbeck added: “As a trustee of Letham4all I am delighted we have been able to come together to support the fridge. Our constituents expect us to put political differences aside and work on behalf of our communities, and that’s what we have done here.”
Labour Perth City North councillor Brian
Leishman was “absolutely delighted”, with his group having put forward the proposal at last week’s meeting.
He said: “I was absolutely delighted to propose that Letham4all received £13,000 from PKC to help with the continuing of the community fridges. In a cost-of-living crisis where people’s resources are scarce, the fridges lessen food waste and help build strong community bonds as well as redistributing food across Perth.”
