Anna selected to represent Scotland
Crieff squash player Anna Halliday has once again been selected in the Scotland squad to take on the continent’s best at the 2024 European U19 Championships.
Anna helped the team to a brilliant fifth place finish in last year’s event, and they will look to build on that in Bucharest later this month.
She also competed at both the Junior World and European Team Championships last season and completes a strong national squad.
An excited Anna said: “I really loved the experience at the European Championships last year as it was an amazing opportunity to compete against the top players in Europe, grow as a team with the other Scottish players and interact with so many people from different countries.
“Our ambition this year will be to try and play our best squash and achieve as high a position as we can.
“I feel that I’ve improved a lot in the last year, thanks to competing at the World Teams Championship in Australia last summer which really helped bring on my game by playing some of the best junior players in the world.
“Starting at Dundee University in September and joining the squash team has also helped me to develop my game through playing different players.”
The strong Scotland line-up also includes two debutants, with Bridge of Allan’s Squash Club Oliver Hunter and 15-year-old Murdo Mackenzie making their debut in Scotland’s under 19 team.
Three players will return to the team having played in last year’s event, including Scotland under 19 and 23 champion Robyn Mcalpine, who reached a semi-final in a professional event for the first time last month.
Commenting on the squad selection, Scottish Squash pathway manager and coach Kylie Lindsay said: “We’re really looking forward to this event, and we have some great experience in the team with three players returning from the team which finished fifth last year, and two players making their debut in this competition.
“We are looking to carry the confidence we gained from last year’s performance into this event.”
The European Mixed Team Squash Championship run from March 28-31 in Bucharest, Romania.
