The head chef and co-owner of finedining restaurant Killiecrankie House has been shortlisted for a prestigious culinary award alongside some of the best in the industry.
The Craft Guild of Chefs has named the shortlisted nominees for the 2024 Awards, and among those on the list across the 15 main categories, is Tom Tsappis, head chef and co-owner of Killiecrankie House in Perthshire.
Tom features as one of the three shortlisted candidates in the Restaurant Chef category, alongside George Blogg, executive head chef of Gravetye Manor Hotel and Restaurant, Sussex and Daniel Rogan and chef owner of AO, Daniel Rogan, Southampton.
The winners of the 15 main award categories and one special award category will be announced on Monday June 24 at the JW Marriott Grosvenor House Hotel in London.
As part of the awards process Tom and his fellow chefs are assessed against a series of stringent criteria, including their use of local produce, how they support for local farmers and producers and the wider community in which they operate, as well as their culinary creativity, team management, the way they develop their team and how they have made a contribution to the industry as a whole.
Commenting on his award nomination, Tom said: ‘’I’m, over the moon to be a shortlisted nominee in the Craft Guild of Chef Awards 2024.
“As a chef you have to be passionate about what you do, and awards like this play a significant part in shaping you as a chef, helping you to develop and evolve, by benchmarking you alongside your industry peers.
“However, the reality is that you are only as good as the members of the team you work alongside day in and day out - so being shortlisted also recognises their efforts too because without their input none of what we do would be possible.’’
The annual awards now in their 30th year are seen as the chefs’ Oscars recognising the exceptional talent across the whole of the hospitality industry - from apprentice and young chefs just starting out to chefs who are established in their careers in hospitality, pubs and restaurants.
Matt Owens, chair of the Craft Guild of Chefs, said: “I wish each and every one of you the best of luck on the night.
“It is such an honour to be recognised by your peers to get you this far and it’s why The Craft Guild of Chefs are proud to showcase some of the great talent we have in our industry.”
