Councillors have rejected a planning appeal for a Perth flat to be used as a short-term let.
According to the local development plan, the Monart Road flat - close to St Catherines Retail Park - was deemed to be just outside the city centre and in a“prime residential area”.
The application received 18 letters of objection to the plans, with objectors raising concern about the effect on parking and the impact on the residential neighbourhood.
Perth and Kinross Council’s (PKC) Local Review Body met to review the decision to refuse change of use planning permission on Monday, April 15.
Cllr David Illingworth referred to student properties in the area questioning if they too may cause a noise and disturbance to neighbours and voted to approve the application.
The Conservative councillor admitted:“from personal experience, I may have created a nuisance when I was a student.”
However Conservative councillor Bob Brawn upheld the reasons for refusal given by planners at the council, which were related to its residential surroundings.
He noted concerns about parking and added:“it’s a prime residential area.
“It would make it a commercial property in a residential area.”
Bailie Mike Williamson agreed and moved for refusal. The SNP councillor said it would be the“dilution of a residential zone”and a “commercialisation”of it.
Councillors voted by two votes to one to refuse the planning appeal for the flat to be rented out as a short-term let.
