The Cursed Hotel
The Cecil Hotel in Los Angeles was opened in 1924 and has since gained the reputation of the hotel of murder and suicide, most notably because it was the temporary residence of serial killer Richard Ramirez in 1985. The hotel was also the setting for the famous 1947 Black Dahlia murder – it was Elizabeth Short’s last stop before she was killed. The hotel has been the site of at least 15 deaths. At least 12 of these were
suicides – several people have thrown themselves out of the building’s windows, while
others chose its doomed rooms to overdose on painkillers, swallow poison, or slash their throats with razor blades. In 2011, the hotel changed its name to Stay on Main, perhaps as a way to escape its dark past.
