Pick Me Up! Special

SHOP TILL YOU DROP!

Krishna Barot, 32, from Glasgow, got more than she bargained for when she went to the mall!

-

New pyjamas, a pair of fluffy slippers, and lavender oil… Ticking off the last few things I’d need for the birth of my second baby, I waddled through Glasgow’s Silverburn Shopping Centre.

I was two days overdue, so I was rather uncomfortable.

‘After this, I can put my feet up,’ I said to my husband Chirag, 38.

My daughter Varnika, three, and mum-in-law Sadguni, 61, were with us, too.

But as I wandered through the shops, I started to have pains in my back.

I tried to ignore them at first, but then they became worse.

‘I think I need to go to the hospital,’ I said to Chirag. Something wasn’t right. But first, I nipped to the ladies’ toilets.

Squeezing myself into the stall, I suddenly felt a sharp

pain in my stomach. Contractions! ‘Help!’ I cried, panicking. My mum-in-law came in a few minutes later to see how I was doing.

‘Oh, my God!’ she cried, seeing the state I was in.

She rushed out and soon came back with Chirag and two mall security guards. They introduced themselves as Michelle and Catherine, and helped me into the more spacious mother-and-baby cubicle, where they laid me down on the floor. I didn’t have time to think about how dirty the floor was, as the painful contractions were ripping through me. I was groaning in pain and everyone was looking at me.

Then, a few

minutes later, the baby’s head was out!

‘Push! You can do it!’ Michelle encouraged.

And, within minutes, my beautiful baby boy was born.

‘Thank you,’ I cried, as Catherine wrapped him up in a blanket and passed him to me.

Paramedics arrived soon after and cut the umbilical cord.

They took us to Queen Elizabeth University Hospital, where baby Nitul was checked over.

Thankfully, we were both healthy.

The nurses registered Nitul’s birth certificate with Silverburn Shopping Centre as his place of birth.

It wasn’t exactly the birth I had planned, but I’m just so lucky that my baby is healthy.

The shopping mall even gave Nitul a £500 gift card to celebrate his unique arrival!

My mall baby is certain to shop till he drops!
