Little Pick Me Ups
After seeing her holiday snaps, Abbie Carney, 28, from Bishopton, needed a change
Switching on my laptop, I stared at the frumpy woman looking
back at me, and I barely recognised her as me. A few weeks before, I’d been on a Mediterranean cruise with my husband David, 29. I’d been so unhappy with the clothes I was taking with me, but they were the only ones that fit. And now, the pictures from our holiday were the final straw. ‘I look awful,’ I said. Stepping on the scales, I was shocked to find that I weighed 9st 12lb. I knew I wasn’t huge, but for my 5ft 2in frame, I was overweight – and unhappy.
While working long hours at a bank, my weight had crept up over the years.
I hardly ever took a lunch break and would end up snacking on unhealthy meal deals. ‘This needs to change,’ I said. The next day, I threw out all the junk food from the house.
Later, I came across the Skinny Coffee Club on Instagram.
The programme involved drinking healthy coffee granules and following their eight-week diet plan.
With nothing to lose, I decided to give it a go.
Soon, I had cut out all artificial sugars from my diet, and was eating more sensible portions.
I started exercising, doing cardio and weight training, going to classes at the gym, and even went jogging in the evenings.
A week later, I stood on the scales again.
‘I’ve lost 4lb!’ I cried excitedly.
It really gave me the motivation to carry on.
I was focusing on what I was achieving rather than on what I couldn’t have.
As the weight continued to drop, I also noticed that my energy levels had gone up, and I no longer felt so lethargic.
A few weeks later, my mum Ruth came over. ‘You look amazing!’ she said. My weight loss even encouraged her to join a Slimming World group.
While we were following different programmes, Mum and I shared tips and even started exercising together.
A year later, I’d reached my
target weight of 7st 9lb, and since then, I’ve managed to maintain a healthy 7st 11lb.
I’m so glad I found Skinny Coffee Club when I did.
I’ve learnt that if I just keep motivated, I can maintain a healthy, steady weight.
I’m so much happier and confident now.
It’s completely changed my life.
