You are the only one who really knows your son and if you think travelling will be an opportunity for him to do nothing for months on end, then you have a right to say no. Especially if he wants you to pay for it! Perhaps tell him he can take a week’s holiday then he needs to get a job. There’s plenty of time to travel.
