Hundreds of dogs come and go through the rescue centre. Some are broken and lost, some are shy and timid, but each are incredibly special in their own way.

Full of undying love to share. Grandad Zach was just that. Cuddly, loveable and comical – I knew from the very moment I laid my eyes on him that he was one of a kind.

As a social media and marketing manager at Dogs4rescu­e, I meet new pups every day.

In October 2018, an email came through to Dogs4rescu­e founder

I will miss him lots

Emma Billington, from the council pound with informatio­n on dogs being put to sleep the following day. Last chance dogs.

‘He is too cute!’ Emma cried, when she saw Grandad Zach’s picture and descriptio­n.

At 14 years old, he suffered with dementia and spondyliti­s, making his back legs weak.

Straight away, Emma knew it wasn’t his time to go.

And so the very next day, instead of his life ending, Grandad’s next chapter began.

At his new home in our Dogs4rescu­e centre.

Whilst we usually rehome most of our dogs, Grandad Zach was one to keep...

He became part of our

20 permanent residents, living in our Irlam farmhouse in Manchester.

With access to all areas, the dogs run free all day – there are no kennels allowed. Grandad Zach quickly settled down and entertaine­d us all. A natural comedian, whether he was sticking his head through the cat flap honking like a seal or splatterin­g us with food as he gulped down his dinner. Grandad became friends with everyone, even
