Five top tips to help you transition your wardrobe between summer and autumn

-

1. Layer your clothing

We all have those go-to tops that are a little too thin to be worn on their own during the winter. But that doesn’t mean we have to pack them away until next year. Repurpose the clothes you already have to suit the weather by layering them!

Slip two of those plain summer tops over each other and pair them with a light jacket or thick cardigan, for the perfect winter look.

2. Thicker pieces are your friends

As we begin to slide into winter, you should introduce your wardrobe to pieces that are knitted, padded and thick.

Solid colours offer the most flexibility and this winter, neutrals are in. Going forward, the materials you want to stick to are leather, wool, corduroy, denim and tweed!

3. It’s time for a statement coat

A coat that can be worn with anything is a winter essential. It’s your grab and go!

This year, if you’re wearing lots of neutrals, you’ll want something dark that won’t risk a clash with your outfits.

A plain black coat will do the trick, but a bold pattern could work just as well. You could even go big with a purple or blue, or follow the festivities and choose a lovely red or green.

4. Accessorize the right way

That’s right, it’s time for beanies and scarves! A cream scarf or pastel beanie can tie your winter outfit together. You can even coordinate accessories with a statement coat.

They’re the perfect winter accessory, so don’t be afraid to use them.

5. Belts! Belts! Belts!

If you’re wearing thicker clothes and layering the way you should, a belt really will be your saving grace.

So try slipping on a belt over that baggy sweater dress to cinch your waist!

And if you’re looking to add some visual flair, don’t be afraid to wear one that stands out – a belt might be that pop your outfit needs.
