Pick Me Up! Special

Surprising SWITCH

Nicola King, 33, from Hertfordshire, didn’t think any diet would fill her up...

Looking myself over in the mirror and that awful, familiar feeling quickly grew inside of me. I didn’t like my reflection in the mirror nor the images of myself on my phone.

With 14st 11lb staring back at me, what was to like?

When did things get so bad? I thought to myself.

It might have been when I kept eating the things that were supposed to just be pregnancy cravings.

‘Can you swing by Mcdonald’s and get me that cheeseburger and chocolate milkshake I like on your way home?’ I’d ask my husband over the phone. ‘Not again,’ he’d groan.

I always thought the weight would disappear after I gave birth, but it never did. In January this year, things only got worse during lockdown.

There was nothing to do but go to the kitchen cupboard and snack on all things I’d bought for the kids.

At least before, I’d walk them to school, but all I could do now was eat and it was getting harder and harder to go up the stairs. Something had to change.

How to lose weight? I Googled not for the first time.

I’d tried diets in the past and they were always too complicated.

All the meals I’d have to make would take too long and as a working mum of three, I didn’t have the time.

Slimfast, I read from my computer screen.

A few shakes and bars to get me through the week…

I’m not going to last more than a day, I thought to myself.

But what did I have to lose? I went down to the shop, bought myself some shakes and on 6 January, I tried Slimfast for the first time. ‘There’s no way this is going to fill me up,’ I gasped as I looked at my first chocolate shake. ‘This isn’t food.’ But to my surprise, I actually liked it.

I was strict to start with and soon, I wasn’t heading to the cupboards anymore for crisps or chocolate bars.

I lost 6lb in my first week and then 5lb every week after that.

Before I knew it, I passed my target weight of 11st! Today, I am 10st 8lb and I’ve gone from a size 16 to a size 10. I am happier than ever.

I go for walks in the parks with my kids and I don’t find myself getting out of breath quickly anymore.

I can now try things on in the shops without being afraid that they’re too tight.

Before, I used to be quite down because there wasn’t much I could do with my kids, but that’s changed with Slimfast.

I am so glad I found a diet that works for me.

Now, when I look at myself in the mirror, I smile at who I see looking back at me.

I needed to make a change
