What’s on your mind? Learn to love yourself

-

I’ve always hated what I see when I look in the mirror – I’m constantly on a diet and I’m never as pretty as other girls I see. How can I come to terms with how I look?

It’s all too easy to talk down to ourselves, in a way we never would to anyone else. Why do we feel the need to be so hard on ourselves?

In a world of picture-perfect social media influencers, it’s easy to get the lines between Instagram and reality blurred – but remember, Instagram is a highlights reel. The images people choose to show us are taken from their best angle, with the right lighting, make up and hair preened to perfection. No one really looks like that every day!

Regardless of what you see online though, try to stop comparing yourself to others and appreciate the unique things that make you, you.

What do you like?

No matter how you feel about your looks, there must be something you like about yourself! Maybe you’re a caring and supportive friend, or you’re really thriving in your career. These will be the things people recall when they think about you, not how much you weigh or what dress size you wear. Write down the things you like about yourself, focusing on what’s inside – don’t pay attention to the outside.

Think positive

Positivity is infectious, and if you surround yourself with happy, positive people, it will rub off on you! True friends and people who really care about you will always be supportive, no matter what – and if they can be your cheerleader, you should be able to cheer yourself on, too.

Embrace yourself

Confidence is a state of mind – plaster on a smile and hold your head high. Confidence and selfacceptance will make you glow from the inside out, and that makes us truly beautiful.
