Little Pick Me Ups!
Jemma was absolutely tickled pink during her pregnancy…
it’s a girl!’ the midwife smiled. Pregnant with my second, I was over the moon. ‘We’ve already got a girl!’ my partner Stephen, 33, huffed. But deep down he was chuffed, and he already doted on our daughter Isabelle, 3.
My pregnancy was different this time, though. I was sick constantly, unlike with Isabelle.
‘This girl’s giving me grief!’ I said to my mum Carol, 51.
‘Are you sure it’s not a boy?’ she laughed.
Still, I went to town on my unborn princess, buying dresses, cute shoes, girly toys…
We redecorated Isabelle’s room, too, as we wanted her to share with her new sister.
The walls were pink, littered with pretty butterflies. Picking names was fun. ‘What about Florence?’ I said. ‘Perfect,’ Stephen smiled. At my 20-week scan, it was confirmed I was having a girl.
Family and friends threw me a shower with pink everywhere!
And on 11 May this year, I went into labour at James Paget Hospital.
After four hours, my baby was born, a healthy 8lb 10oz...
‘Was it a girl you were having?’ the midwife asked. Stephen and I nodded. ‘Well...you’re in for a shock!’ she said, handing over our baby. It was a boy!
We were stunned.
‘Oh no, the bedroom!’ I cried. We both burst out laughing. Mum didn’t believe me until I video-called her with baby ‘Florence Nighting-male’! ‘Meet Elliot,’ I told her. Isabelle took a while to get used to the fact she had a baby brother, too.
Since, I’ve exchanged all the baby girl clothes, and moved Elliot into the spare room…painted blue!
I think Stephen is secretly pleased.
But I’ll make sure Elliot’s a mummy’s boy!
