Pick Me Up!

Aisle Do it!

Traditionally, it’s the father who gives away the bride. But for these ladies, someone equally special took on the task...

Matchmaker to the rescue!

When I was living in Dubai, I had just two weeks to plan my perfect wedding. Everything was arranged, the flowers, the food and my beautiful silk dress…

The only sadness was that my parents weren’t able to make the trip.

‘Who’ll walk me down the aisle?’ I asked Craig, my hubby-to-be.

‘Don’t worry,’ he said. ‘I know exactly who we can ask…’ Mike. His best man and the chap who’d played matchmaker!

I’d met Mike in June 1996 when he was sharing a flat with a friend of mine.

‘I’ve a mate who I know you’d just love,’ he said one day.

I fobbed him off, not wanting to be set up.

But at a New Year’s bash that year, Mike introduced me to his friend Craig, and the one word that perfectly sums up our meeting is: Fireworks!

Within a year, we were engaged.

Mike had played such an important role in bringing us together. So him giving me away made total sense. We asked Mike and he was proud to agree.

When the day arrived, the pair of us waited outside the ceremony room, listening for the Wedding March.

‘Chin up, big smile,’ Mike whispered, sensing my nerves.

I couldn’t have been more grateful to him.

I was marrying the man of my dreams, and me and Craig are still blissfully happy to this day.

And it’s all thanks to Mike!
