Keep Love Letters?

- Mia, 28, Liverpool

I’m about to move in with my boyfriend of two years, and I’m so excited. But while

was packing up my things, I found a box of old photos and letters from when I lived in Australia, years ago. There were so many memories inside, including some love letters from an ex-boyfriend.

We shared a four-year relationship that ended badly, and we’ve had no contact since.

I know I should throw these letters away, as my current boyfriend might be upset by me holding onto them, but they hold some good memories, and getting rid of them would feel like throwing out an entire chapter of my life.

Should I save my old love letters as a keepsake?

YES

Pick Me Up! reader Tracy Enright says, ‘We are who we are because of our pasts, and every one of us has a history. You clearly have no intention of rekindling any relationship with your ex, but, equally, it’s probably not worth making a big thing out of them, since that will give them an importance they don’t deserve.

Stick them where they belong – with your old birthday cards that you just can’t throw away.’

NO

Pick Me Up! reader Louise Warren says, ‘If it was a bad point in your life why wallow in old feelings of hurt? That chapter of your life’s closed. Revisiting it will only stir up old memories seen through rose-tinted glasses, which might lead you to question your current relationship when you don’t need to.

I’d throw them away. If you can’t do it, you have to ask yourself how much you care for your man.’
