Marry Me... NOW!
Emma’s’ partner planned her the surprise of a lifetime…
For years, I moaned to my boyfriend Ben, 40, about how unromantic he was.
I’d plan everything. I’d even buy my own birthday and Christmas pressies from him! ‘He’ll never change,’ I thought. Then, as he was turning 40, Ben made a suggestion.
‘We’ve some time off. Let’s go to the Lake District,’ he said.
We piled into the car with our walking gear and our dog Bobby.
On the first day, we found a secluded beach. While Bobby went for a dip in the water, Ben and I stood on the sand.
‘I know you wish I was more of a romantic,’ Ben said, ‘so I really want to do something special for you.’
I was excited and nervous. What’d he planned? Suddenly, Ben fell to one
knee and pulled a ring out of his pocket.
‘Yes!’ I squealed, completely shocked.
‘Just one thing,’
Ben grinned...
‘The wedding’s in two days’ time!’
‘Stop winding me up!’
I said, stunned.
But he was deadly serious! Ben had spent the last eight months planning our secret wedding, setting up a private Facebook page, inviting all our friends and family.
I didn’t realise, but I’d picked out my dress months earlier. A friend owns a wedding dress shop and pretended she was closing down.
‘See if you like anything,’ Ben said. ‘We’ll get married one day, so why not?’
I even had it fitted because the tailor had told me she was booked up for two years!
I’d not thought anything of it. What a scatterbrain! Another friend’s a florist. I’d told her I’d loved some flowers she’d done for a wedding. So Ben got the same for ours.
On 6 August, we got hitched in Gretna Green. Dad walked me down the aisle, and everyone was there.
I’ll certainly never call Ben unromantic again!
