NAME: Nikki Jermain, 30, Dunfermline VITAL STATISTICS: I first started my weight-loss journey with Scottish Slimmers 10 years ago, because I wanted to slim down for my sister’s wedding. But as soon as I lost weight, I didn’t think I needed the classes anymore. That was my downfall and the pounds piled back on. At my biggest, I was wearing size-20 clothes and weighed 20st ½lb. MY MOTIVATION: As I got bigger, my confidence plummeted. Determined to change, I dieted in secret, using the Scottish Slimmers eating plan at home. But eventually my weight loss plateaued and I knew I needed the support of a class to lose the rest and keep it off for good.

MY ACTION PLAN: Thanks to a change in shifts at work, I was able to rejoin the Scottish Slimmers class – and with the support of the group I managed to lose a further 3st. I still don’t understand why it took me so long to realise I needed help. This time around, it has been about changing my lifestyle for the better. Instead of worrying about being too big, I’m always the first person to sign up for a new sport or activity.

LOOK AT ME NOW: Last August, I finally reached my target weight of 11st 5lb and I’m a size-12. When I travelled through the airport recently I nearly didn’t get through passport control, as the officer didn’t believe the photo was of me! It’s incredible to look back and see how far I’ve come.
