Skye longed to have her baby home for Christmas

-

heartbreaking, but docs said she should be home soon. But then Eliza’s weight began to plummet. Soon she weighed 3lb 10oz...

She was jaundiced, too. It was just a few weeks before Christmas, and I’d longed to have our little girl home by then.

Now I was terrified that Eliza wouldn’t be coming home at all. ‘Yes, she will, and she’ll be ours forever,’ Ryan insisted, hugging me tight.

The nurses at hospital were amazing, too, as were the charity Bliss. org.uk, which supports preterm babies and their families.

It gave us so much encouragement.

After two weeks, Eliza’s condition finally turned around.

Her jaundice level was drastically decreased after three days of phototherapy – and, when she was ready, the nurse taught me how to feed her in a more natural position that encouraged her to take more milk than she was taking before.

This increase in Eliza’s milk consumption was vital for getting her weight back up.

At long last, we were allowed to bring Eliza home on 23 December.

Just in time for Santa to spoil her rotten with plenty of toys and baby clothes!

Eliza’s now nearly a year old – and, though she’s still small, she’s laughing, rolling over, and she loves her food.

We can’t wait for this Christmas, but it will be difficult to top last year.

When we were a family at long last.

Now she’s laughing, rolling over, and she loves her food
