Pick Me Up!

Dino-mite!

Kayleigh High, 23, from Walsingham, had an unusual birth...

-

After spending another Sunday afternoon chilling out at home, I was beginning to feel a little bit uncomfortable.

‘No sign yet then,’ my partner Tim asked, rubbing my bulging tummy.

‘Nothing,’ I sighed, feeling a tiny bit fed up.

I was nine months pregnant and was now five days overdue, but our baby boy didn’t seem keen to make an appearance just yet.

I already had my little girl, Caitlyn, seven, from a previous relationship and I couldn’t wait for Tim and I to expand our little family.

We’d found out I was expecting back in May 2019, and both of us were thrilled.

Caitlyn was pretty chuffed too and couldn’t wait to have a little brother to boss around.

I was feeling great and as my due date flew by, I couldn’t wait to meet our baby.

‘He’s obviously pretty comfy in there,’ Tim reassured me.

‘Well I’m not,’ I laughed, trying my best to relax.

But with no sign of our little man just yet, I tried to carry on as normal.

Only drifting off to sleep that Sunday night in January, our baby boy was finally on the way.

‘Tim! Wake up,’ I whispered, nudging him round.

‘What’s up?’ he worried.

‘My waters have broken!’ I exclaimed.

‘We’d better call the hospital,’ Tim said.

But with still no contractions yet, the midwives told me to wait at home until they started and were much closer together.

Tim quickly woke Caitlyn up and drove her round to her grandmother’s house just down the road, while I tried my best b to get comfy and have a nap. nap

Only before I knew it, my contractions were just five minutes apart from each other and we soon headed off to the hospital.

Taking deep breaths, I was desperate to get there but within minutes of getting in the car, my contractions were getting even closer together.

I had a feeling something was going to happen and began to prepare myself for the unplanned.

‘I think he’s going to come now,’ I cried, suddenly feeling the urge to push.

‘I’ll call the hospital,’ Tim said, pulling over in a nearby layby.

An ambulance was on the way, but we were in the middle of nowhere and Tim had no idea how to explain where exactly we’d pulled over.

‘We need to go to the dinosaur park,’ he explained, putting his foot down.

‘You what?!’ I cried, trying to breath through the pain as I gripped on to the front seat.

‘It’s the only place I know round here that they’ll be able to find us,’ Tim went on.

Within minutes we’d pulled up outside a local theme park, Roarr! Dinosaur Adventure.

I was about to give birth in the entrance!

But without time to think, Tim helped me into the back seat of the car and I started to give birth to our little boy.

‘I can see the head,’ Tim cried out.

Thankfully, the ambulance was soon on the scene and arrived just in time for me to give birth right there in the dinosaur theme park entrance!

It all happened so quickly, neither of us could believe it.

Our little boy Issac Edward Rex was a healthy 8lbs 3oz.

We were over the moon, and decided to give a little nod to his unusual birth in his name.

I know I certainly won’t ever forget the day Issac was born, and with Rex one of his middle names, I know Issac won’t be able to, either.

It wasn’t the birth I had planned on having, but it was certainly memorable.

We just hope we didn’t wake up any of the dinosaurs!

We had to go to the dinosaur park!
