Pick Me Up!

One in a MILLION!

This week, we’re recognising the amazing work of Kenny Mammarella-D’cruz, from London. He wrote to say…

Returning to the UK after five years of travelling, I found myself concerned for many of my male friends.

Many of them had fallen into depression, addiction and distraction.

So, I rallied nearly a dozen of them into my living room, determined for them to get to the cause of their problems.

‘I don’t know what a men’s group is, but I’m setting one up now,’ I told them.

Soon, they opened up. Sharing the news with their friends, the group soon outgrew my living room.

That was nearly 20 years ago and since then, my Menspeak men’s groups, have only continued to grow.

I have a 12-point basic outline, which allows men of all backgrounds, ages and cultures to come together and talk.

The aim is to get men talking and to understand what is causing their problems.

From my own experiences, I’ve learnt that childhood memories – even those we’ve repressed – can trigger our adult lives.

By talking and opening up, my groups help men to understand their problems and start their recovery.

Suicide is the leading cause of death in men, so by helping even just one person, it really can make all the difference.

I’ve also set up training courses, so other people can start their own groups.

Although I offer the basic training, I encourage people to adapt their groups to their own specific clientele.

And you can also download my Quick Start Guide, so you can set up your own group.

Men often put up this exterior that they’re strong, but they can be the opposite inside.

In my mind, to be a true man you have to embrace your feminine side.

You have to talk about your feelings and allow yourself to acknowledge your emotions.

Sometimes all it takes is listening to other people to know you’re not alone.

And for that reason, I’ve now launched a podcast so men can hear what happens in the group sessions.

If you’re feeling trapped and don’t know what to do, then get involved.

If you’re not ready to come to a group yet, then listen to my podcast, watch some of my Youtube videos or even take part in my online courses.

With my Menspeak groups, we aim to help as many men as we possibly can.

Just talking can save their life
