One in a MILLION!
This week, were recognising the amazing work of Lauren Moulding, 30, from Gateshead. She said…
Working for the NHS, I had managed to work my way up in the hospital sector. Even though I thoroughly enjoyed my career, it could be very high stress at times.
I’m a creative person and I needed something to soothe my brain.
Semi-permanent makeup was something I was really interested in.
After having my eyebrows microbladed, I knew this technique was great.
I would also spend hours watching videos of microblading on Youtube.
That’s when, in 2018, I thought I would give it a go.
After researching a little more, I found a course I could complete during the evenings and weekends, when I wouldn’t be on shift at the hospital.
I loved every single second of it.
A year later, in 2019, I became a fully qualified semipermanent makeup artist.
Throughout the course, I worked full-time hours as a radiographer, pursuing my dream hustle on the side.
I was exhausted. Taking the plunge, I handed in my notice and opened my own salon.
Why couldn’t I combine my passion for makeup and helping people?
My good friend Astrid, 42, had been diagnosed with cancer in recent years. Astrid had always wanted microblading even before her diagnosis.
Finding out she was going to lose her hair due to chemo, it was even more of a reason to get her eyebrows done.
So, I invited her to the salon. After a few hours, her brows were truly on fleek.
Seeing her reaction I realised I was doing the right thing.
In that moment, I knew I wanted to do more.
Currently, I offer semipermanent makeup to people who are experiencing hair loss due to alopecia or chemo.
Not only that, but I am campaigning for the service to be available on the NHS, just like wigs.
I know how much a procedure like microblading can improve people’s confidence.
Something so small really can have a big impact.
I am fundraising to be able to offer patients free semipermanent makeup.
Seeing the look on Astrid’s face is what continues to spur me on, I want to help more incredible women just like her. ●to donate, visit: Justgivinglolface
