Pick Me Up!

Five questions with … Drew Steven-king AKA ‘Avon Guy’

-

Drew Steven-king, 56, from Milton Keynes, started his career as a Butlin’s Redcoat and worked many jobs over the past 35 years when, in April last year, he decided to take the leap and start his own Avon business…

What’s your favourite memory from Butlin’s?

My childhood dream was to become a Redcoat and my most treasured memory is when I won the prestigious title of Redcoat of the Year.

Why did you plunge into the world of Avon?

I was approached one day by an Avon Rep walking her dog and she told me all about it – including how running my own beauty business was a great way of earning money while remaining flexible.

At first, I wasn’t sure it was for me, but since I was furloughed during the pandemic and was already a huge fan of Avon’s products, I decided to give it a go.

I soon found that Avon’s values mirrored my own – looking back, the last 18 months have helped me rediscover my sparkle.

What does a typical day look like for you?

My customers are the beating heart of my Avon business, so it’s really important to look after them.

From keeping an eye on the Rep dashboard to preparing and delivering brochures to my regular customers – it’s a community of friends who look out for each other.

I always support my team to be the best version of themselves by being a role model and coach.

What are your words of wisdom?

The best advice I could give is to take a chance. Avon is flexible around your lifestyle as you work for yourself, but you must be willing to put the effort in and be consistent. If you don’t take a chance, then nothing will ever change!

How does it feel to work in a femaledominated industry?

It feels great to know I’m helping break the stereotypical image of the Avon lady.

When people open their doors and see me, sometimes they’re surprised, but I find it gets them interested!

My goal is to help men take an interest in skincare. Everyone deserves to look good, smell great and feel good – Avon can help you achieve that!
