If you fancy yourself your own Spoons tour, take a look at Julie and Phil’s favourites to get you started...

1. The Albert and The Lion – Blackpool

It’s easy to see why this pub is a favourite, as it’s situated directly beneath the Blackpool Tower!

It also has a very strange story behind it. It used to be a Woolworths store, with the story coming from those years.

There are rumours that a small boy named Albert purchased a stick with a horse’s head and candle, the finest that Woolworths would sell, on his way back to Blackpool Tower to see Mander’s Menagerie, a Victorian ‘wild beast show’.

Unfortunately, the curious boy used the stick to prod the resting lion, who pulled ‘Albert inside the cage and swallowed the little lad ‘ole.’

Not the nicest story, but it’s definitely interesting and unique!

2. The Chief Justice of The Common Pleas – Keswick

This pub, another firm favourite of Julie and Phil’s, is a very unusual one with a strange history. It’s inside an old magistrate’s court and police station, hence the name.

It’s unique as hardly any renovation has been done so it still looks exactly like the court, that was first built in 1902 and remained as a court until 2000.

You have to push through some heavy iron-clad doors to get to your dinner.

You can even sit where the defendants sat in the dock while you eat, it’s definitely a dining experience to tick off the bucket list!

2. The Palladium – Llandudno

This Wetherspoon’s is both Julie’s and Tim Martin’s favourite, and it’s clear to see why.

This pub is the former Palladium cinema, built in 1920 on the site of the Market Hall.

The unique thing about Wetherspoon’s pubs is that they’re often converted from something else, giving them a history.

It still looks exactly like a theatre with all of its original features retained – you can sit in your choice of the stalls or the circle.

The Palladium has a stunning interior, with classical columns and paintings everywhere, as well as the odd optical illusions there, too.

If you’re a fan of the theatre, this is the perfect pub to try.
