Ice pick killer
Jun hoped for a fresh start, but Luka Magnotta wanted something else…
Simply wanting a friend, Jun Lin needed a companion to rely on. After making the move from China to Montreal in 2010, he was a student, focusing on his career.
Ending his relationship with his boyfriend, the 33-yearold hoped to find some new company.
Using Grindr, Jun started branching out.
And after responding to a Craigslist ad on 24 May 2012, he met Luka Magnotta, 29.
Was this a connection that Jun needed?
But the next day, Jun didn’t turn up to work nor contact his friends.
And later that day, on 25 May 2012, there was a video posted online that revealed all…
Stripped naked and tied to bed frame with New Order’s True Faith playing, this wasn’t a sex tape.
Titled 1 Lunatic, 1 Ice Pick, the moments that followed depicted a scene of horror.
Taking an ice pick, Luka slit Jun’s throat, before dismembering his limbs.
Jun’s murder filmed in an 11-minute video.
Taking a knife and fork to his skin and letting a dog chew on his torso, it appeared that Luka even ate parts of Jun, too.
With a janitor finding Jun’s discarded torso five days later, severed limbs had also been mailed to government establishments across Canada.
And once the video of Jun’s death was confirmed as authentic, a man hunt began.
There was no denying Luka’s role in Jun’s murder – but why?
In an internet café in Berlin on 4 June 2012, Luka was arrested.
‘Something forced me to do it,’ Luke told a psychiatrist when waiting for trial.
He claimed that voices had told him to cut up Jun’s body.
Yet, psychiatrists weren’t convinced.
It wasn’t until December 2014 that Jun’s family would finally get justice.
Jurors found Luka Magnotta guilty of first-degree murder.
Sentenced to life in prison, Luka received 19 years for other charges which will now run concurrently.
Wanting to start afresh, Jun’s life was taken with an ice pick.
Another innocent victim killed by the hands of a lunatic.
